There are many ways to get help in our community
WUMCO hosts the Community Action Agency’s Navigation Team the 3rd Thursday of each month from 9:00-4:30pm to help residents connect with County and community services.
Need help applying for SNAP? Utility Assistance? Temporary Cash Assistance? Other resources? Come see DHHS staff at WUMCO! For more information and appointments call: Trica Young at 240-777-1582.

In just a few clicks, Maryland residents can determine their potential eligibility for SNAP, Cash Assistance, WIC, Medicaid, and Energy Assistance. The benefits screener is available at mymdthink.maryland.gov.
Contact the Renters Alliance at Info@RentersAlliance.org, or contact Maryland Legal Aid for more information.
Homeowners can find mortgage counseling and foreclosure prevention at Housing Initiative Partnership.
Homeowners can also call the Maryland HOPE hotline at 1-877-462-7555 for a referral to a nonprofit housing advocate. You may also get help from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Homeowners who need assistance with home repair – apply at Rebuilding Together.
Utilities
Clients may be eligible for utility bill assistance through the Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP). Click the link or call 800-332-6347. The Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) provides bill assistance to low-income households in the State of Maryland to make their energy costs more affordable and to help with the prevention of loss and the restoration of home energy service.
Residents are encouraged to contact the utility company to arrange a payment schedule if they are unable to keep up with their payments. All customers are encouraged to make payments as they are able, as a good payment history will be helpful when seeking payment arrangements. A Deferred Payment Arrangement may be an option to help pay off a large past due balance. With the Deferred Payment Arrangement Plan, a down payment is required to set up the plan.

For Fuel Oil Assistance beyond WUMCO’s assistance limits contact Fuel Fund of Maryland. Fuel Fund of Maryland is a private non-profit that may be able to help pay your gas/electric/bulk fuel costs. Fuel Fund is an income-eligible program that can only be utilized once every 12 months. Call 410-235-9080 for more information.
Salvation Army offers water assistance.
The Human Utility also offers water assistance in Maryland.
Lifeline is a federal program that provides discounts for limited income consumers on their telephone and internet services. In Maryland the program is called Tel‐Life.

Apply for SNAP (Foodstamps) online. Contact the Montgomery County Food Council’s SNAP Outreach Team at SNAP@mocofoodcouncil.org, or 301-818-3614. WUMCO staff are also available to assist with SNAP applications.
